Open submissions are welcome from 1 January through 1 September. The themed submissions will run for 5 months before closing. Check back for other themed issues throughout the year.

Please follow specific genre guidelines when formatting and uploading your submission and limit your cover letter to 150 words or less. Full guidelines can be accessed by clicking on the plus sign located at the top right of each genre category listed below.

Although we do accept simultaneous submissions, we do not accept work that has been previously published either in print or online.

If work is accepted for publication, Interim obtains First North American Serial Rights and, for the period of one year, Electronic Rights. After that time, copyright reverts to the author. Writers whose work appears in the annual print volume will receive one free contributor copy of that volume and will receive a discount on any additional copies ordered.

You will see that we're now charging a reading fee for all submissions. This has become a necessity to help defray the costs of our expanding publishing operations, which include producing our quarterly online issues and the annual print volume of the journal, hosting live and online events, and developing and launching the many new projects we're working on across content platforms.

We appreciate your continued interest and support and look forward to spending time with your work.

We're looking for hybrid work that spans media more than genre. Submissions can include audio and visual files or any combination of the two. Although we're still very much interested in the page as a field of experimentation, we're equally interested in hearing and seeing what form(s) the poem takes when freed from the page.

Please include all work in a single file whenever possible. If your submission or any part thereof is accepted elsewhere, please either add a note to your submission or withdraw that submission in Submittable. There is no need to notify us of withdrawals outside our Submittable account.

Reviews should be of books published within the past two years. Exceptions will be made for reviews that address noteworthy "overlooked" books published prior.

Reviews should be no more than 1,375 words in length. Micro-reviews are welcome.

If your submission is accepted elsewhere, please withdraw that submission in Submittable. There is no need to notify us of withdrawals outside our Submittable account.

We are looking for artwork in various media for print and online covers, as well as for use on the web in relation to the poems, essays, and other work we are publishing.

Please upload up to six (6) high-res files containing your work, preferably in PNG or JPG format, 800-1500 pixels wide. If any of the work included in your submission is accepted elsewhere, please withdraw the submission containing that file using Submittable. There is no need to notify us of withdrawals outside our Submittable account.

Interim is working on streamlining their website and we want to showcase original photography of the southwest and promote our artists. We're looking for an image for our landing page that represents the beauty of the Southwest and the colors, textures, and shadows of our ever-changing landscape.

Submissions are FREE and will be closing on May 1, 2025.

The selected photograph will be featured on Interim's Homepage and the photographer will be credited.
